Just a stones throw from the famous Pump Room Museum and the Beautiful Valley Gardens is the Mercer Art Gallery, one of Harrogates favourite attractions. It was originally the Promenade Room which is Harrogate 's oldest spa buildings and was built due to the increasing number of people flocking to the town to take a drink from the sulphur wells and was built as a promenade room. It has also been home to Harrogate 's Town Hall.
The Art Gallery was opened in 1991 after it had been restored beautifully to its former glory. It is now the home to many exhibitions of paintings, sculptures and photography. Good news for the pocket as well as it is free admission. Other feature of this attraction includes guided tours, a gift shop, and picnic area and is ideal for school outings with educational lectures and facilities (please ring for information). Disabled access is available as well as close by parking.
